Adopting a dog.?
stbernardlover@ymail.com asked:
I want to ask this question because i am getting a st bernard and i have 2 young kids which i am concerned about. The question is Have you ever been kissed (licked) by a slobbery dog (st bernard, mastiff, great dane. bulldog, boxer)? What did it feel like? How wet was it? The reason i want to know is because this st bernard slobbers a ton and is very affectionate and i just want my 2 kids to not be alarmed or harmed by the slobber. Is their any diseases they can get from being wet slobbery kisses. Do you let your dog kiss you. Would you let your dog kiss you if it gave you wet slobbery kisses like this st bernard. I realize that this is one of the draw backs of getting a st bernard but me and my wife both want one.

My dogs are not allowed to “kiss” – even though they are smaller and don’t drool, it’s just not allowed.
As for feel, it’s what you expect – like a big wet rag being dragged across you.

You should fully research the breed before getting a dog. Dogs slobber, thats what they do. When kids do it, people think its cute.
go figure

i had a big dog for a while and she loved to kiss. it feels a little gross and weird at first but you get used to it. you’re gonna love the dog, the ones that love a lot are the best!

I think its a good idea to get a St. Bernard, they are very sweet dogs and dont worry about them giving “kisses” because it can’t spread any disease or make anyone sick.

I don’t think that slobber can harm your children or anything but it just feels like a real wet kiss..dogs are actually suppose to have the cleanest mouths..even cleaner than ours..i know it’s kind of hard to believe but it’s true. I had a pit bull that drooled a lot but his kisses weren’t as slobbery as you would think. He was huge. He weighed about 75 pounds and I can tell you one thing..larger dogs that are raised right are better to raise children around than little dogs such as chiuahuas and poodles and such because little dogs have attitudes and when a child pulls their tail their going to turn around and snap. My pit bull was absolutely wonderful with children and when a child pulled his tell he would just sit there and turn around and look at them and start wagging his tail..lol.
But I think that a St. Bernard would be a good choice to have around your kids!
