Chinese Foo Dog Drawing

What is the difference between a shishi, komainu, karajishi and foo dog? Are they the same?

I have been mistaken for a time on this: If called Fu / Fuu / foo "Dog" then why is a lion? (They are usually illustrated with the body of a lion, red or golden skin, ears a farmer and a horse's tail.) Japanese Shishi I think it also means "lion-dog is a dog shishi fu? (Shishi are drawn as a dog-eared one Retriver golden spots of a leopard and a long bushy tail waved.) karajishi A Japanese for "Chinese lion" I think it's the same animal, too? (It looks very Shishi similar to, but have heard akita) And the other name I heard is a komainu which means "dog of Korea" (the whole animal looks like a dog, with her hair of a lion and a single horn like a unicorn). … Are these creatures the same or different? Please let me know ^ _ ^

Hmmm … however other answers? And an easy issue, really. • Shishi – "Shishi (or Jishi) is translated as" lion ", but can also refer to a deer or dog with magical properties and the power to repel evil spirits. "The above quote also lists Koma-inu (dog of Korea), Kara-shishi (Chinese Lion) as names for this creature. References which I also find that what is commonly called a Fu dog is the same creature. (A note of interest is possible that statues with an open mouth are said to be "fair lions, and only those with closed mouth are" dogs "lion.) So, in short, seems to be different names for what is essentially the same thing.
