Discharge from the neck of my dog?
female_of_the_species3 asked:
my dog is going in for surgery this coming thursday. to make sure he was ok to be put under, they did some blood work. they drew blood from his neck. so they shaved a spot on it. and now today, there’s some kind of discharge coming from it. it doesn’t smell, but when i wipe it with a cloth, it’s kind of yellowish and it’s making his hair all crusty. what could be this? anyone have any idea?

That is not normal for an injection site. Clean it off with peroxide and call your vet.

Could be Keratin a substance that builds under the skin when there is damage

Sounds like the site got infected. It can happen. Call the vet and see if he wants you to clean it out, use an antibiotic, or both.
Good luck!

Yellowish discharge is usually an infection. I’d take him back to the vet as they may want to put him on a course of antibiotics before surgery.
All the best!

He could have gotten clipper burn somehow if the area is red too that would be my best guess….they may have put something on the skin to help sterilize it before taking the sample is another guess. Best thing to do is let them know, I highly doubt they would charge you anything to take a look at it for you.

might be an infection
may be serum from the blood
Wash it with gentle soap, like dawn liquid dish soap (original).
put triple antibiotic ointment on it
If it feels hot or looks red, it’s infected and you’d need to call the vet immediately. Otherwise, see if this clears it up. -!-
