How To Draw Dogs Begging

I cant stand my best friends dog help?
I love dogs but my best friend has a beagle and she has absolutely no manners which I realize is due to the way she was raised. She was a shelter dog. She will claw me and has drawn blood. If Im eating something she is in my face begging and will try to steal bites of my food when im not looking. My friend doesn’t discipline her and I don’t want to tell her how to take care of her animals but how can I tell her in a nice way that she needs to teach her some manners? Her dog is also over weight and I cant just say “hey your dog is fat”. What can I do or say to solve my problem and not upset her? Thank you.
Your friend needs to know that a few months of training can mean the dog behaves better for the rest of it’s life- if she has no desire to train the dog or doesn’t think there is a behavioral issue than it is unlikely that anything you say about that will help short of telling her that you wont be coming by for dinner anymore since you get mauled every time you do. The weight issue, however, is something that you need to address with her. Of course you can’t just say the dog is fat. Maybe ask how much she feeds and start from there. If she feeds the recommended amount on the bag you need to make sure she knows that the chart on the bags almost always recommends you feed too much and that she can safely cut the food back 1/4 of a cup every 3 or 4 weeks until you find the correct amount of food. She needs to know that an overweight dog will not live as long and weight can/will cause stress on the dogs joints as it ages as well. You don’t have to tell her that she is literally killing her dog with food but essentially….. she is taking away years of it’s life. There isnt a nice way to tell someone that there dog is fat because people always take it as an insult- and they should. Dogs dont get fat on their own- they get fat because we feed them too much food or scraps and do not exercise them enough. I constantly talk about feeding at my job- how much to feed, what to feed and how to feed and I encounter the weight issue a lot. I have found a nice way to say it is by examining the dog and saying “did you know that your dog is carrying a little extra weight around the middle?”- and i say it surprised as if i didn’t spot it the second they walk in the door. And then i quickly complement their dog and say “yeah he looks great except i noticed he is starting to lose his waist a little” then they act surprised as if they didnt know and i ask how much they feed/ what activities they are doing and then i proceed to recommend that they feed less from there. When they act like the dog being overweight isnt a big deal I tell them all the benefits of feeding less and taking the weight off- feeding less means you avoid health issues in the future, you spend less and on feed and you clean up less poo. Your friend should be feeding twice a day- hopefully she isnt feeding anymore than 2 cups a day and even that is too much for an inactive dog. She needs to take in account all the treats and scraps she gives him too. If she gives any sort of treat she can cut back calories just by breaking it in half. The fact is that skinny pets live longer. Hopefully you can get it through her head.
