My dog has to be quarantined?
Jovay asked:
So my 2 year old accidentaly let our dogs out. They immediately ran down the road and to another dog that was being walked. The other dog pinned one of my dogs down and my dog in self defense bit it’s leg. They called the police and they came and said that my dog has to be quarantined for ten days. The bite was not bad enough to draw blood. I understand that my dogs should not have been out without being on a leash. I don’t understand why my dog has to be quarantined if there was no blood drawn and I know my dog does not have rabies. The people were very rude and not very understanding about the situation. Should I just let my dog be taken away? We live in Michigan if it matters at all.

They did not have the tags on at the time, but they have had their shots.

Did your dogs have a rabies tag indicating that they had had their shots?
If not, then this is usual and customary.
You might think about getting locks on the doors to prevent your two year old from “getting out.”

The same thing happened to me but my dog was late with his shots. I had to let him stay at the vet’s for 10 days.
The Animal Control Officer said that if his shots had been up to date he could have stayed home (like house arrest).

It is to make sure the pet is not rabid. 10 days is not a lot of time. bear in grin. sorry about the bite. been there done that!

I live in michigan as well. My brother let my dog out and he bit a lady that was walking down the road in front of our driveway. We showed animal control his license and proof of his rabies vaccination. We had to keep him quarantined ourselves for 7 days. We just had to make sure that he was on a chain and in a fence at all times during that 7 days. We had to go to court and pay a $110 fine. That’s all that happened there, so I don’t know why they would remove your dog(s) from your home.
