our neighbors dog got loose from him and attack our daughter & my husband the dog bit my husband & drew blood?
Lisa W asked:
the owner of the dog did absolutly nothing to subdue the animal, he did not call its name, he did not come to get it, he did nothing except wave his hand at the dog in a disgusted manner and went into his house all the while it was jumping on my husband. it bit his arm, then took off into our back yard and garage before running across the street . can someone tell me is this a legal issue? and by the owner NOT making any attempt whatsoever to subdue the animal is this considered assault on his behave any info is helpful …
i apologize for not giving all the info, we did report it to the cops, and my husband did recieve care at the emergency room, the problem with the cop situation is the other dogs owner the mother of the man who allowed the dog to run free works for our local police dept as a dispatcher and she recieves special treatment constantly, the officer who took our statements, said “yes the dog is in the house and she is fine I was just playing with her” this is very frustrating. also in response to one of the answers NO the animal was not on a leash they own 5 dogs and none of them are leashed ever.

It is absolutely assault. I don’t know the law but if your husband sought medical attention, he can report the dog to the hospital or police and they can take the matter into their own hands.
It is so sad when this happens because the dog will most likely get euthanized and more often than not it could have been prevented by either the owner training the dog well or obeying the laws and keeping the dog leashed and off others’ property.

you can report it to the police and also the dog law officer if you have one. since the dog was not confined or leashed and he was on your property, you have every right to report him.

Go to dogbitelaw.com & click on your state – there are all the dog bite laws listed & cases & options for you in the event of bite case as to what you should do. I would be calling the police & animal control. The owner has to pay all doctor bills at least.

the owner had the dog on a leash, and it escaped him there was nothing he could do. He was most likely in awe and scared of his dog. If the dog did damage the medical bills are up to the dogs owner.

I think the more important thing is making sure the dog is up to date on its rabies vaccination.

call the police. You may be able to sue him. For court purposes, take pictures of your husband’s bite.

Call the police or Humane Society. That owner is responsible. Also your husband should go to the emergency room or urgent care. I don’t know about your state but in mine dog bites must be reported by medical facilities. I love my dogs but if one of them bit someone with no provocation, such as you have described, I would think it necessary to put the dog down. A dog that will run down the street and attack a person cannot be trusted. Good luck.

Yes call animal Control. He might Attack a small child. Make sure you have all your shots up to date you may need a tetanus shot. Oh my what an inconsiderate person they don’t deserve having an animal.
